k-lite may do more harm than good. I would suggest removing it or restoring windows to before you installed it. You can replace superior codecs with inferior ones unintentionally.

Download g-spot. Have it analyze your media to find out what codec is in the avi wrapper. Then you will need to find that codec that is suitable for Video for Windows (VfW) and install that codec.

If you’re referring to GSpot, it doesn’t appear to be Windows 7 compatible yet so try MediaInfo instead.

Hmm

I tried running it, all I get is a command prompt screen that comes up then goes away.

Cannot seem to get the video working on my Windows 7 Desktop….

Im importing an XVID media clip and I only get the audio….

Yet I can play the media clip just fine with windows media player…

Have any idea specifically what codec I need?

Got the program working (I was clicking the wrong link)

I opened the file I couldnt view in Vegas, downloaded the codec it said, and the video still is not showing….

This was the link it gave me

It’s xvid you should be blaming, not windows 7.
This codec has always been a PITA for most Vegas users.
It’s a delivery codec, not an editing one so, if you really need this footage, find another app to convert your xvid files to something that Vegas understands, preferably DV-AVI.

BTW, when you say that it doesn’t work with AVI files, specifically what type of AVI files are you referring to?
As you are probably aware, xvid files (as well as a lot of others) all claim to be AVI files.

Ive had spyware issues before…leary of those applications
