  • Video look in 59.94 material (Canon 5D)

Hello! We shot a Music Video with two cameras, a 5D and a 7D. The 7D was set to 23.976 fps, while the 5D was set to 59.94. Now, the 59.94 material seems to have a bit of a “video look”, meaning it looks a bit more “electronic” than the other material, if that makes sense.

Right now I’m editing everything with the Sequence timebase set to match the 23.976 material. But I’m wondering if there is any point in converting the material to something else prior to editing it in Premiere Pro CS6 or is there no chance of matching the more filmic look of the 23.976 material?

(Philip Bloom wrote about converting material from 60p to 24p in 2009, but I’m wondering if this is now superfluous, since PrPro CS6 lets me edit multiple frame rates in one sequence. Let me point out that I’m not so concerned about MIXING material. I’m interested in getting the same “film like” look that the 24p (23.976) material has.)

Any ideas? Someone who knows how to help out here?

Go to your project window where you have the 59.94 clips. Lasso them and then right click. Go to interpret footage and change the framerate to 23.976. From there drag to your 23.976 timeline and watch them playback in great slow motion. Once they are on the timeline, right click again and select scale to framesize to bring them up to 1080.

    Good luck, happy editing.

Hello Ray. Thanks for your response.
My question was more about how to get rid of the slightly electronic “video look”.
(Also: It’s a music video, so I can’t play back the material in slow motion b/c I would get lip sync issues.)
