  • Vegas won’t play video for .mov!

I know this has been a problem for years, but I am hoping someone has found a workaround. I have a 1,000 gigs of video in .mov format and I don’t want to spend a week converting it all and losing quality. Any chance Sony has figured this out yet?

    Hi Joel

In the past I have overcome this by changing the .mov to .mp4 MOV is just a container for various aspects of the video

Just rename one to mp4 and see if it works for you…

I rarely have problems loading .mov files.
What version of Vegas are you using?
What version of QuickTime player are you using?
What kind of mov files are they (i.e. what does Movie Inspector say about them)?

I am using Vegas 10, but tried the trial version of 12 and it didn’t do any better.

I just updated quicktime so it is the most recent. As for what movie inspector says about them…? I have been using Vegas for years and have no idea what Movie Inspector is…

I did try to change the extension .mov to .mp4 and it was the same thing. Audio and no video.

[Joel Clark] “I just updated quicktime so it is the most recent.”

Be warned that a lot of folks have had problems with the latest version.
I’m using 7.7.1 and it works fine for me on everything from Pro 8 to Pro 12.

Using QuickTime Player, go Window – Show Movie Inspector.
Here are two screenshots from different ProRes files from an FCP shop that I can play without any problems.

    Mike,

    My format is 1080i50, 1888 x 1062 Millions

16 bit integer (Little Endian) Left 48,000kHz

    FPS: 25.00

    Data rate: 26.56 mbits/sec

Thanks for your help on this… I uninstalled quicktime and reinstalled an earlier version just in case. Still no dice!

Joel, next to Format, my screenshot says Apple ProRes.
    Does yours say anything?

What does it say next to Format in Movie Inspector?
Where did the mov files originally come from?
