I’m really not clear on the difference between Pro and the Suite.
I’ve been watching Particle Illusion tutorials and that program is free so what’s so new about Vegas 18 besides a newer tracker and artificial color. I don’t know anyone that even has black and white footage so that seems intriguing but something few would need.

A whole lot more than a newer tracker and artificial color Roger.
I have upgraded same day of its release and i am not disappointed one bit.
Solid and includes a lot more new and improved features than i was expecting.

[Roger Bansemer] “so what’s so new about Vegas 18 “

    Grazie’s Pick . . . so far . . . .

✔️ Improved color grading including a dockable panel, skin tone line on the vectorscope, and logarithmic exposure. Just getting my head around this Professional Grading Engine – Marvellous!

✔️ A tool to update your drivers to the latest recommended version. Yes, sure great for me but also for the wayward Posters hereabouts that need to know what or if their GPU is hurting VegasPro18. PLUS this means the TEAM-VEGAS have bitten the Bullet to allow us to ascertain just WHAT our GPU is for. This is a seismic move on their behalf – KUDOS to the Team.

✔️ Auto-configuration of settings to maximize your hardware’s potential without you having to lift a finger. My kinda Tool!

✔️ A new 8 bit full level project mode which recognizes the full/limited color range. Been bashing this and tricking it against my colour and Particle Pluggies. Much to learn and absorb, so far more pixels being used – yes? I can see stuff I’d have had to work hard with.

✔️ Improved plugin chooser and effects explorers. Improved?!?! That’s an understatement. It’s been Overhauled.

I can now Search for a Plug and have it responded in split seconds and NOT the glacial reaction it used to do – if I was lucky.
I can now make Favourites and have them TAB under its OWN Favourites Tab – stunning!
    Team-Vegas, thank you.

    Oh yeah, the Love-Handles.

Roger, me ole Mucker, dl a DEMO and give it a whirl.

Thanks for the replies. I’m going to poke around a bit more before I dive in.
I have been playing with the stand alone Particle Illusion program.
I can’t figure out what the proper render format is in Particle Illusion to get it to appear as an alpha channel though. Any suggestions?
I’ve also tried in Vegas to go to the properties of the event and then “media” and choose Alpha but that doesn’t seem to work either.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well the free version of particle illusion is free and it’s pretty neat. I like going through all the particle systems to give me ideas for my own. It’s a good particle generator to sure, though the one that comes with vegas effects which is part of suite/hitfilm pro I think can do more all though you would have to import or create some of your own particles because it doesn’t come with as many. Also the free version doesn’t let you import footage, but you could still export stuff to overlay obviously. Particle illusion also only does particles, vegas effects does a bunch of different effects. Suite also comes with a photoshop like program.

Vegas pro comes with vegas edit and dvd authoring software, its also supposed to come with sound forge pro 14, which is kind of whatever since vegas pro is so good at audio editing all ready but it can still do a few things vegas cant

Since VEGAS Pro 18 was released on Aug. 3, VEGAS DVD Architect was replaced by Sound Forge Pro 14 in the VP “classic” and Suite versions which it was bundled with previously.

DVD Architect is not any more bundled with the Movie Studio Platinum and Suite versions either. The replacement will be announced later.

MAGIX will still sell DVD Architect but you need to contact them directly.

Do you know what it takes to get a particle illusion file to be transparent when putting it in Vegas?
I’ve tried about every setting including changing the vegas properties of the event to alpha.

What Render Template did you use to render the Particle output?

I’m using for Partial Illusion settings:
    Presets – Prores 422
    format – quicktime movie *mov
Codec – Open H264 video encoder
    type – YUV 4-2-0 video

I’ve used about every other setting as well and I can’t get any one of these renders to become transparent even by going to “media” in Vegas and changing it to alpha.
Can’t figure out what I’m missing here.
