    Hi,

I am just getting up to speed with Vegas Studio Pro 8 and am moving from Premiere Elements. In my videos, I like to have bulleted text appear synchronized with the audio to highlight key points. (It will fade in and each new bullet fades in below the previous when the topic is mentioned.) This is easily done with either app, but there is a wrinkle which is that I want to have a custom bullet. In Premiere Elements, you could add graphics in the titler and so you could easily include both elements in one media file. I am now trying to figure out how to do this in Vegas. Here are the options I have come up with.

1.) Bypass the titler all together and create graphics files for the list of bullets. Each graphic file would contain all the previous bullets. This is doable, but seems cludgy to have to revert to a third party program.

2.) Create the text in the pro-titler and then put the bullets on a second track. This seems really ugly since you will need to deal with two tracks simultaneously instead of just one in the first option and thus you will have to fade in and out each track. Although, the benefit is that it can be completely handled in Vegas Studio Pro.

3.) The ideal option would be if I could just add a simple image to the text in the titler. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to do this in Vegas. Ironically, this was easily done in Premiere Elements which in almost every other way is less powerful than Vegas.

This brings me to my final question. Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to do this? Option 3 is ideal IMO, but does not seem doable in Vegas Pro. Am I missing something?

    Thank you,

    JJ

Use a different font for the bullets
    or
put the bullets in a different level in the PTT tool. You can have as many “layers” as you need in this application.

    Hi,

I am not sure if I understand your answer and wanted to clarify. My bullets are graphic files. (e.g. PSD files although they can be converted to whatever in Photoshop.) Are you suggesting that I can add these graphics to another layer PTT? I have been trying to figure out how to do this. If this is indeed possible can you point me to more information on how to insert them? I have looked everywhere with no luck.

    Thank you,

    JL

In re-reading your first post, I’m still not seeing where you specified that you have already created bullets in Pshop.
In this case, you have no option but to two-track it. Bullets on one, titles on the other. I’d still layer the titles, but that’s my workflow. YMMV.
Premiere Elements has an elegant Pshop workflow, no doubt. Both are Adobe products, so it’s expected.

Just to add another layer of complexity but elegance to Spots suggestions you can make the two tracks (1: Fonts 2: Bullets) children of a blank parent track and then control both tracks together via the parent track.
