Vegas Pro 10.0 – capture error
I am trying to capture video from my Canon XHA1 to my laptop. The video is in HD format but the device does not recognize this. I get the pop up “The device Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit Device could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user”.
I am able to capture video no problem in SD. This only occurs for HD taping.
Something simple that I am missing?

Are you using the HD capture utility?

I’m not sure what that is or where to find it – quick answer or where to find it?

When you click the capture icon, do you get this window or does it automatically launch the capture app?
If it’s this window, choose the HDV or SDI option.

I do get that pop up window and choose that, but it opens to a blank window and shaded icons.

I do get that pop up, the play pause etc icons are all shaded out. I can only type in the edit or log section. My camera/or the software are not recognizing each other when in this mode. Camera is plugged in now.

I’ve never used that camera so the only other suggestions are to make sure that the camera menu is set properly.
You might also try powering down your computer, hooking the camera up and then turning the computer back on again.
Other than that, I have no other suggestions.

thanks for your help – all things i have already tried. getting frustrating that’s all!

If you can capture in DV but not HDV, your down convertor on the camera may be set to HDV->DV.
On the XHA1, unplug firewire cable. In signal settings, make sure playback is set to auto, and also make sure down convert is not set to on if you’re trying to capture HDV.
Switch off A1 and connect firewire cable, switch on the A1

In signal setup, i can see the playback std and hd down-conv … however both are shaded out where i can not change the settings.
