Vegas Pro 10.0 – capture error

Well, there is your clue. It isn’t Vegas, it is your camera or its settings. If the camera is relatively new to you, then go over the user manual carefully, or seek a forum for that camera. Canon instruction books (and I used to be in the camera sales game) are pretty basic for those cameras IMHO.

there is something odd going on…I have two sony camcorders dcr-trv340–and i like them as a classical pianist for internal mike–suddenly my vegas pro 10 won’t capture and I’ve spent hours on this problem. It’s not my cameras. I have the brand new fire wire–checked that my device is connected-checked all the settings, preferences.. and re-loaded or installed vegas.. same issues. Now I know that Sony purposely stopped shelving hi 8 cassettes so people would phase out old cameras..now I’m wondering if this is a related phase out.

One thing with windows is if you have used or enabled the Movie Maker program, it will grab the firewire port and lock Vegas out. Ditto with some web cams. Just a thought. Another possibility is a dead firewire chip.. that has happened to me. Check the settings in Device Manager.

There is no Sony conspiracy to phase out DV as you suggested. You could give this a go. Info provided by Mike in another post:

There have been several reports about firewire issues with Windows 7.

•Go to Device Manager and click on IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers
•Click on the device listed underneath this heading. In my case it was NEC 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
•Right click this device and select ‘update driver software’ from the shortcut menu
•Then select the option ‘browse my computer for driver software’
•Then select the option ‘let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’
•This then gave me three drivers to pick from (make sure the’show compatible hardware’ checkbox is ticked
•Select the driver named ‘1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)’
•Install driver.

If you don’t want to do that, try hooking up your camera to another computer that has firewire. If you have a DV line protector, make sure you use it. If not, you risk blowing up the firewire board in the camera, not the PC. If it is already blown, chances are the other computer will not detect it. A camera repair is most likely necessary.
