Quite often I will start Vegas to continue an edit session and the program loads to about 30-45% as indicated on the bar on the bottom lhs, then it stops with the message that “Vegas has stopped working”. The program then exits. Usually on the second try everything loads as normal and I can start working. Other times I go to load my last program and am told that it wasn’t saved properly, would I like to open the last saved backup?
Has anyone else had these issues?
Running Intel 4-core, Win7 Pro, 8gb ram, and no background programs.

Nothing in your description rings a bell. Is the error message a Windows error or Vegas error? If it’s a Windows error you will be asked if you want to search the web for a solution (a waste of time), or there will be nothing but “Vegas has stopped”. If it’s a Vegas error you will be asked to describe what you were doing.

Thanks for the response Stephen. The Dialogue box is a Vegas box, and does ask what I was doing. Below is the fault description…

    Problem Description
    Application Name: Vegas Pro
    Application Version: Version 10.0c (Build 470) 64-bit
    Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
    Fault Module: C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.4926_none_08e1a05ba83fe554\MSVCR90.dll
    Fault Address: 0x00000000740BE0FC
    Fault Offset: 0x000000000001E0FC

Looks like something to do with Microsoft Visual Studio or the way Vegas uses it???

It’s possible that you have a problem in your .net installation.

    Here’s what I would try.
In Control Panel, uninstall Vegas and .net

    Go to
    https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992

and download/install a clean version of .net

    Then reinstall Vegas.

Please let me know if this helps.

    Hi Stephen.

    Unfortunately your suggestion didn’t work..
I uninstalled, rebooted, installed Net, rebooted, installed Vegas, rebooted, then opened Vegas, then opened my project and….

    Damn it!!

I restarted Vegas and the project loaded as normal… so no real dramas, but it really spooks me in case one day it doesn’t come good. I keep saving versions at critical points now, just in case.

You may have a problem with MSVCR90.dll which is a part of the Microsoft visual c++ runtime library.

I recently had similar problems with ATI drivers on a Windows Vista system. The system is an HP Pavilion which came standard with an on-board ATI chipset. The user added a dual-port ATI card to add a second screen and everything went to heck. ATI catalyst was causing an error with both MSVCRT.dll and MSCVR90.dll. I won’t elavorate on the hair-pulling this one caused me, but a fresh install of Windows 7 and all programs, including Vegas, fixed the problem.

MSCVR90.dll exists in multiple locations on your system, so I would do a full search for it. See if one copy was recently modified, and maybe overwrite it with a copy from somewhere else on your system, or another system. A lot of programs install their own copy.

    Other things to try:

Make sure that you have the latest graphics drivers.

Run the sfc /scannow System File Checker command to replace a missing or corrupt copy of damaged system files. If this DLL file is provided my Microsoft, the System File Checker tool should restore it.

Install any available Windows updates. Many service packs and other patches replace or update some of the hundreds of Microsoft distributed DLL files on your computer. The msvcr90.dll file could be included in one of those updates.

Repair your installation of Windows. Performing a startup repair or repair installation should restore all Windows DLL files to their working versions. How you do a repair depends on how Windows was installed. Whether you have the install disks from Microsoft or it was preinstalled by the PC manufacturer. You’re looking for “System Repair”.

Perform a clean installation of Windows.

If any msvcr90.dll errors persist after a clean install of Windows, your DLL problem can only be hardware related.

I had suspicions about MSCVR90, but I will do my homework as you suggest. Not happy about re-installing Windows, Vegas et al, but if a boy’s gotta do it, he’s gotta do it.

Oh God, why didn’t I buy a Mac?

Stephen, I don’t know whether your suggestion worked or not, but the problem seems to have gone away. After following your suggestions and rebooting after each change, the program faulted after the last boot up, so I figured it hadn’t worked. But after shutting down that day and starting up the next morning all seems to be going well.
So I don’t know whether to give you the box of chokkies or the gremlin in my computer rack. Rather give it to you for your time and suggestions.

    Thanks.
