  • URGENT, VEGAS 7.0- Help PLEASE!?! Audio/Video Sync problem

Posted by Maverick2000 on April 5, 2007 at 1:12 pm

First off, hi all & thanks for having me. ULTRA newb here.
    Anyway, onto business.
I need advice & tutoring on Vegas 7.0.

Ive never done this before, so feel free to talk to me as if Im 3 years old. Keep it simple, Im quite the newb. lol

However, if it makes a difference, Im pretty skilled at the old Cool Edit Pro. Im not bad at audio manipulation & effects.
Ive just never done video editing.

    So, here goes:

When I first got Vegas & started using it, all was well.

Now, when I load a certain VOB file into Vegas, the Video is always about 3 seconds ahead of the Audio. Every time.

    Ive tried re-loading the file.
    Ive tried uninstalling & reinstalling.
The file plays fine in every single media player known to man, even Power DVD, but once its in Vegas, its out of sync, & so is any rendering of it.

Im at my witts end 🙁

    Please help?

Here’s a method that has ALWAYS worked for me and never a sync issue:

    DVD –> Analog –> Convertor –> Firewire –> Capture DV-AVI

Here’s the simple approach as long as have everything captured already. Lay the movie on the timeline, ungroup, slide audio until in sync, regroup, start cutting!

Anyone have a solution that doesnt require more software, or simply accepting the problem?

Why would the file, & only this file, play fine with every player, but then mess up once loaded into vegas?

A friend suggested this easy to use program (Which is a must for me) called “Shrink”.
Its the easiest way Ive found to bring media onto my comp.
Its really good with my home movie projects.

Can you bring a movie from a DVD-R straight from the disc into Vegas without needing something like shrink?

Ive also been told that Vegas just really sucks at editing Mpeg.

What version of Vegas are you using? Vegas 6.0c or newer has an option File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc which will import from a DVD. Vegas 6.0c or newer can also read AC3 audio in the mpeg file. My guess is that you’re on an older version.

    7.0

I also figured out that its not just out of sync, but that the video is actually playing quite sped up, while the audio stays at the right rate of speed.

The farther along it plays, the worse its out of sync & the video WAY ahead of the audio. So, no matter how much I syncronized, it would never be right.

    Any ideas?

Its only this one file, but it plays fine in every other program.

Ok, this is absolutely hands down THE most confusing forum setup on the planet LOL

Where the heck is the “Sign In” button?
How can I edit a post?
Is there a normal Message Board View option aside from this god awful unwieldy page full of text?

    Just asking.

Since we get over 400,000 users a month, creating 1,000+ posts a day and reading 11 million posts a month, I think not many people agree with your opinion. ;o)

The answer is: There is no need for a log-in in this system. When you create an account, you simply need to remember your username and email address. Enter them when you want to post and for that split-second that you hit the post button, you are “logged in” for just the split-second it takes to make that post.

This allows us to have many, many times the numbers of people our server-farm could support if we were having people log-in to our system.

Also, many systems that require a log-in, are tracking what their users do. We track nothing. ;o)

We haven’t given the forum the ability to edit posts because we learned many years ago (we’ve been doing this almost 12 years now) that there’s always an idiot who wants to cause trouble and then after a few people correct them, the originator will delete their original remarks making the thread look as moronic as the one who started the problem.

We have been coding new additions to the COW and have it on the drawing board to give our users 30 minutes (or until someone responds to the post) to make corrections. After one of these two events, it would lock.
