Activity Forums Sony Cameras Urgent – issue with SXS card

The card has never asked to update or format without apparent reason, simply that it isn’t recognised by the camera at the moment, which to me indicates it is not correctly formatted.

I am not technical enough to know what equates to a software error or physical damage so am opting for the more optimistic option of software error…

Reformatting in windows didn’t work. 🙁

Does it cost a lot to get Sony to look at it?

Frustratingly, I got this response from Sony:

    ‘Dear Mr Lawer,

With regards to your query, unfortunately we do not cover accessories,
please contact your dealer for assistance. Thank you.

    Kind regards,
    Ines’

Haven’t heard back from pro service yet…

Although I’m not able to add any technical insight I am in business and I simply can’t believe Sony not at least attempting to help. How can the dealer possibly be in a better position to assist than Sony themselves. We are all using new technology with the EX cameras and recording to cards so mistakes inevitably will be made. You’d think that Sony would be prepared for this and able at least to advise. They are not being asked for a free meal or even being held to account for the problem – what are they afraid of?

No, the cost is nominal. Not sure what the UK charges but here in the states it’s only around $50 or less for the recovery attempt on an out-of-warranty card.

Sorry about this– I will email Sony UK and see if I can locate the correct resources

Thanks Ian, I was not blaming you personally but what looks like a bad ethos in the company. It could just be an individual who couldn’t be bothered.

Olly, I found a Sony media contact in Europe. If you need their contact info let me know.
