Urgent – issue with SXS card
Hi,
I posted on here before to say that I tried to format a 32GB SXS card in my ex1, but got to 79% and would not complete.
ITV who I borrowed the cards off now cannot format them in their EX1R. I’m not sure of the exact error, but says it’s not recognised.
They checked it in a SXS card reader and it says it’s formatted FAT32. I’m not sure how this can be the case as never used it in my PC, only my mac, which immediately shut down with an error.
Please help. These cards are very expensive.

If the Lock is On the camera can’t format the card, check and make sure the Lock is Off.
If you pulled the card while the camera was still writing to the card it will damage the card.
Slow down and do one thing at a time.Good Luck

I did pull put the card while it was trying to format. I didn’t have a choice as it would not format.
Can it be repaired and if so, how?
The lock isn’t on.

If the Red (Write) light was on you most likely damaged the card. I don’t think there is anyway to repair a damaged memory card.

Not good. Not good at all.
The cards are Sony though. Will the program you mentioned still work?

SXS cards are formatted FAT32 by the camera.
What firmware was in EX1 when you attempted to format?
It’s possible that early firmware was not 32GB card compatible. You may need to send card to Sony. You may need to update firmware in camera. -

Not by my camera to check, but more then likely this is the case.
The cards should be able to be formatted in the EX1R though, which they worked correctly in before surely? The camera says it does not recognise the card.

Card might have been damaged. I’m not sure of the consequences of using early firmware on card. In fact if the card won’t format in EX1r I’d suspect there’s a good chance card is now damaged. That’s why Sony may need to take care of it.

When you say damaged. Do you think it’s physically or software prob?

Sony would have to judge that. The point is using the early firmware may have impacted the card’s functionality to the extent that it can no longer be formatted.

Lets hope not. Is this the type of event that professional indemnity insurance covers?
Had a quick google, but cannot find a relevant contact at Sony. Any ideas?
