August 14, 2009 at 2:33 amI’ve been doing it like Alexandra since FCP version 4.5….I think I still have 4.5 on one of my G4s coexisting with FCP 6.
Rename the Pro apps including DVD SP, Compressor, Motion and FCP to their current version and install. Delete prefs and run Disk Warrior on the boot drive after….repair permissions and all those normal maintenance tasks.
Of course Carbon Copy clone first.
I am surely not going to do a clean install and start a drive from scratch. I’ll let you know how it goes. If it goes well I saved about 6 hours or more compared to the “blank it and start over” crowd.

August 14, 2009 at 10:23 amAlso I make a disk image once I’ve installed everything, before I do anything else.
Then if you have a problem and need to do a wipe & reinstall, all you have to do is copy the disk image and not find all the DVD’s
Handy if you have more than one system to do.

I’ll take stability over taking a chance anyday. I’ve always done the clean install process and we have very minimal issues that seem to plague most folks who do an upgrade or who cut corners.

September 3, 2009 at 4:12 amChanging Display from Millions to Thousands and back again solved my problem. I am thankful to have read this on Nates post. Sorry if it was not the solution to Nates problem.
Thanks for the existence of Creative Cow. I have been waiting for a call from Apple, but it does not come. Now all is right.
