    Hi Blackmagic Bovines!

I have finally got my BM extreme HD up and running in a new core2duo, with a 5 sata drive raid. Capture in HD and SD analouge is excellent.

    Here are my issues!

1./ We were planning on using the MJEG codec for most of our production, in fact we offlined work before xmas to this codec, in anticipation. Unfortunately we used lower field render. Now normally this wouldn’t be any hassle. Just reverse the fields in Premiere. There seems to be a mjpeg bug though, and the Preset MGPEG 16:9 project renders everything to 4:3!!!! Any renders using the MJPEG as the renderer doesn’t recognize aspect ratio. Any hints anyone??

2./ I an just setting up the connection to the DVCpro. I was planning on using SDI with embedded audio (that is how I have the deck set), but I’m not getting any audio on the SDI cable into premiere. any ideas here?

I have to admit that it is early days, and I will have to re-check everything, but if any experienced BM on PC users have any clues, I would greatly appreciate it.

    OK

Forget the SDI Audio Stuff. It’s an issue with the deck!

    Here’s one for you though.

My DVCpro has remote and RS232 serial jacks!

The decklink has RS422. I have set the DVCpro to OTHER (sony) as opposed to Panasonics own funky serial language.

Do I just run an RS422 serial cable to the remote (they match) or do I need to convert from RS422 to the older 232 format. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Did you get all that!

This is all in the hope of getting timecode and deck control working.

    Cheers

no manufacturer supports RS232. RS232 is designed for “A/V show presentation” like meetings and conferences. This is not a professional VTR for editing. Blackmagic, AJA, Aurora, AVID, Apple, and all the others will never write the RS232 protocol. Your only partial help is to contact Addenda Electronics, who makes RS232 to RS422 adaptors (like for the Sony UVW1400) – but there is no guarantee that even with this, you can control your VTR. Addenda will know.

Thanks Bob. It is a pro deck, and I have had some success using the 422 serial connector talking to the serial “REMOTE” connector on the VTR. IT all works fine using the BM deck control Application. Unfortunately I’m using premiere pro 1.5 and Quicktime isn’t really an option.

So it seems it’s the deck control in premiere where I’m having the issues.

    Any ideas?
