Is anyone interested in sharing any effects that aren’t fancy, but really useful?

    My entry: effect>distort>transform

If you’d like to flop an image around X but scale it as well, sometimes the image can flop in both X and Y if you try to shift-scale it. To allow shift-scaling, apply this effect and scale -100, 100 within the effect controls. Then you can scale to your heart’s content.

Also, if you need to have a layer slide across the screen, you can animate its position normally, and add the loop (“continue”) expression to make sure it keeps going offscreen if you want. Fine, but if you have a hundred of these layers going across the screen, you’ll want to adjust their position so you get a nice layout. Doing it within the Transform effect allows you to move the sliding object into a nice position. Normally, you’d have to move the current-time indicator to a keyframe (when you might not be able to see the animation as well) and select both position keyframes in order to keep the same line of motion. Cumbersome.

Or you could actually animate the slide with the Transform effect, then just drag the layer around for positional tweaking. You see?

You may run into some issues with layers being cut off when you animate anchor points and such, but adding Grow Bounds could help fix that.

My point is: consider the Transform effect when you have complicated transformations in mind.

    Anybody else?
