    Hi all,

I was wondering how to reveal text by having it type on by itself. I tried diffrent animators under the “text” > “animate” twirly in the timeline, but none seemed to work.

    Help appreciated. Thanx in advance.

If you have AE 6.5, try the Typewiter form the ‘Animate Text In’ section of the Text Animate presets. (Help>Text Preset Gallery>Animate Text In)

I have AE 6 – is there a way to do it anyway?

    Yes.

You can always do it the old fashioned way. Use Path Text and animate the Advanced Feature called “Visible Characters”.

Or, if you know how to use the new animation of the new style text, you can do that. The 6.5 presets are nothing but premade animations based on what was available in 6.0 – but presets make it easy.

    You have three choices:
    1. Upgrade to 6.5
    2. Buy Image Lounge from Red Giant Software. They have the ‘Text Typewriter’.
    3. Make it on your own by doing the following:

    a) Type in your text.
    b) Click on the Animate button in the timeline, and add an Opacity Animator. Set the Opacity itself to zero.
    c) Twirl down the Range Selector, and add a keyframe to Start.
    d) Go to the end of the animation and set the Start to 100%. Now you see the smooth typing.
    e) Twirl down the Advanced properties of the Range Selector, and set the Smoothness to zero.

    This is just one way…
