    Hi Tim,

    I’m about to build a computer for a future purchase of an Lse card and came upon a question that maybe you may be able to answer.

    I have that motherboard with a Xena LH and all is well. One of the best mobos I’ve used actually.

    I think “EPS12V” is a spec that defines a power supply with 6 outputs; 3.3v, 5v, 12v1, 12v2, 12v3, -12v, and 5vSB, along with specific connectors and form factor.

    I don’t think “EPS12V” is specifically describing the 12v connector of the power supply.

    I’m pretty sure if that mobo and case are compatable, the Xena will be as well. I’m sure Aja can answer this question better than I can (since you are questioning a quote from them).

    If you have a 12v connector on the power supply that matches the voltage and connection on the mobo, you should be OK. I’ve built hundreds of machines and never had a problem where I put the “wrong type of power connector” in a slot in the mobo, when the voltage matched and the connectors matched.

    I’m assuming you’ll have a ton of drives to handle that uncompressed HD (I have 12 in my Xena machine) so I’d do the “power math”. Some Googling should find you an on-line power calc. I see that case has different size power supplies.

    I didn’t even know that Intel made cases, and it’s true that Intel doesn’t list the PSU as either ATX12V or EPS12V. However, by inference, you can see that the motherboards that Intel wants you to buy with the case are indeed EPS12V, which would mean that the PSU is most likely EPS12V.

    Now the good news is that it probably won’t matter, running an EPS12V motherboard with an ATX12V PSU is OK. Going the other way won’t work without the 24-20 pin and 8-4 pin adapters.

    Hi Paul,

    Well, we bought two Dell’s for just the LS cards, non PCI-Express. We didn’t need the HD because our cameras can’t do it yet, but we did need the digital audio inputs.

    For the third computer, we’re custom building it for the LHe. This includes the Tyan Tempest you have, but I am thinking along the lines of some Enthusiast kit, a Lian-Li PC-V2000 and a PCP&C Silencer 750W PSU.

    But, now that you’ve mentioned it, the Intel case is pretty nice, and less expensive. In reading the specs, here, it’s clear that Intel adheres to the SSI standard, which includes EPS12V PSU’s. So, the Tyan should work beautifully. Now, the next question is whether the Tyan board can control all the fans in the SC5400, which the answer is yes, of course it can.

    Hi Paul,

    Sorry I’m late to check in and answer your question…but it looks like Jeron took care of you.

    I’m not so much a hardware configuration guy. I know a little bit.

    I use a Boxx machine myself…it sort of removes the DIY factor for me…which I like.

    AJA is typically quite helpful on these issues. They would certainly know about any problem MoBos that have been around for any period of time…

    I have two Intel Cases SC5400 for sale. I ordered them wrongly from Ingram Micro and as it is a “special product” they cannot be returned. Would you or anyone else be interested in purchasing these cases against a friendly price?
