Absolutely right. This wasn’t a sudden decision one week before the event, oh let’s go to the Supermeet to show off our new software. Apple doesn’t work that way. This has been plotted for some time, and script was let’s bombshell Michael, Daniel, Claudia, and the others as close to the date as we think we can get away with.

The Final Cut Pro User Group Network is excited to have a very special guest presentation at the 10th Annual Las Vegas FCPUG SuperMeet.

This is part of the FCPUGnet with Baerube and Horton organizing. The right to use “FCPUG” comes with with strings . . . actually strong ropes attached. Using FCPUG gives Apple certain rights and they decided to exercise those rights.

Speculative on my part but I think the reason why there was no specific presenters attached to the 2nd half of the show as that was Apple’s original place.

I think the surprise was the decision to take over the entire presentation. Now really speculative on my part but seeing an Avid sponsored speaker (and a well liked and anticipated one) might have motivated them to pull this. I still can’t help but think that some of the “no comments” around certain product presenters may mean that they’re not completely gone. Others are likely gone completely. It’s that Apple is going to define their roles in showing off product compatibility.

Not shocking. From Apple it\’s almost expected. Does it suck? Does it show disgusting arrogance? Is it in the worst possible behavior? Sure. That\’s what they do. That\’s Apple.

Let\’s hope the response to what they show is this is great, not OMG what have they done. Be prepared for the latter.

Actually, from what I’ve gotten from multiple sources, this is exactly how it all came about. Very sudden decision from very high up in the company.

From anyone else I would find that very hard to belief, but I’m sure your information is good, but I’m sorry, that’s really sad that a week before NAB someone thought it might be a good idea to do a prezzo. A little forethought and they could have had their own demo as they’ve done in the past.

Precisely. Sunday morning / afternoon event like they’ve done in the past. Left the SuperMeet alone.

Or just simply take over the end or the last 1/3 of the SuperMeet. Avid is certainly having a lot of fun with this and I absolutely cannot wait to see what Kevin Smith has to say about Apple now in his presentation… 🙂
