Twitterverse is VERY active right now
Posted by Walter Biscardi on April 5, 2011 at 7:34 pmI’m not one for rumors, but on the heels of “on good authority” that Apple will make an appearance at the FCPUG Supermeet next week in Vegas, now information is flying that Apple may take over the entire event. Bumping every other sponsor and presenter from the event.
AJA and BlackMagic only offer “no comment” on their pending sponsorship / presentations.
Looks like “something” is definitely in the works for next Tuesday. Hope you have your tickets already……

April 5, 2011 at 7:41 pmMan, my part of the twitterverse is quiet on this front. But the Avid-L is smokin’. Too many different accounts of what is happening to lock anything down. But I do know that Kevin Smith’s Avid demo won’t be happening there…they are looking to do that elsewhere now. Got that straight from Avid’s lips…er…keyboard, on the Avid-L.
Shame, that’s one of the big draws for me. Kevin Smith talks are always great.

April 5, 2011 at 7:46 pmI was really looking forward to Kevin Smith and Alexis’ demos actually.
The thing I found intriguing was when BlackMagic said something was happening with their sponsorship. So now we have confirmation that Avid is having to move their presentation. More fuel to the fire.
Let me know if they get a reschedule for Kevin, I definitely would like to see that.

April 5, 2011 at 8:52 pm[Jeremy Garchow] ” Did you say Final Cut Awesome? or iMovie Pro? :-D”
I was chatting with someone that if this is all true that Apple truly does buy out the event (c’mon, we all knew they were going to show up and present FCP) then they basically have to present the best editing system we’ve ever seen. Or it’ll never live up to the expectation. You don’t just buy out every other presenter unless you believe you have a product that simply surpasses everyone else AND you have the wherewithall and finances to back it up.
So it’s either a home run or a fail. IF they truly do buy out the entire event, that’s the only way this thing is going to go down. If they simply were the last presentation of the evening, then there’s a lot less pressure. Either way, I’m super glad I’m not the person or company making this decision, nor do I have to give the presentation. Does make me wonder if the great and powerful Wizard Jobs will show up……
Someone said they’re going to have to have an “Oprah” moment. I personally would love to see Kathy Griffin show up and do her Oprah introduction of Steve Jobs. Now THAT would be jaw dropping! 🙂

Unfortunately my guess is somewhere in the middle…… But next week by this time we’ll all be lining up outside Bally’s to find out.
Someone just suggested I’d be able to sell my tickets to the event once they sell out. Could you imagine scalping tickets to a Final Cut Pro event? How nerdy would THAT be? 🙂

April 5, 2011 at 9:10 pmUpdate on the ProVideo Coalition site now says Canon has confirmed cancellation of their presentation at the SuperMeet because of Apple wanting the full event.
Also heard that the event is potentially moving out of Bally’s and over to the Aria. Anyone else hear that?
I am kind of bummed if this entire Apple takeover is true though. I thought they had the best SuperMeet presentation lineup they’ve ever had planned out.
