  • To Compressor (MPG2): Ref movie or from FC time-line?

I work with FC and I deliver a big part of my jobs as DVDs, so I care about to get a good MPG2 compression. I read here in The Cow a lot of people that send to Compressor a reference movie previously rendered in FC. The process seems to be faster and while Compressor works you can keep on with FC.
Normally I send to Compressor from the FC time-line with what this mean in waiting time. I would like to try the reference movie work-flow, but I didn’t tried it jet for two matters that I don’t know how Compressor deals with when working alone:
    1) The Compression Marks.

    2) The “Rendering Integrity”(?).

    1) The Compression Marks helps to get a better MPG2 compression. When you export to Compressor from the FC time-line, you don’t have to set them. FC sets a mark in every cut and transition. What about when you send a reference movie?

    2) What I mean about the “integrity” of the rendering is that having all the time-line
rendered it doesn’t mean that the rendering is OK. I’m talking about what happens in some cases when you stop the rendering in the middle of a clip and them you retake it later. If you do that in during (i.e.) the rendering of a color correction it nothing happens because you are working in a frame base. But with certain effects which rendering takes in account previous and next frames its happens that and FC retake the rendering as it would rendering a new clip and the effect can get cut.
    Any though would be appreciated.

I have no problems using referenced QTs whatsoever. Yes, the compression marks get tranferred. Yes, it will use source material wherever possible (which can be a big plus). There are really no disadvantages apart from the need to have all sources online.
