For a corporate shoot the client wanted to use PowerPoint….as you know they think that is simple.

On this shoot we used a scan converter…can’t remember which one my camera guy has but I think he said it was a couple thousand bucks.

We also got copies of the slides and converted them to AVIs with Camtasia.

The Camtasia version was far superior. The scan converted versiion was muddy and blurry in comparison.

Camtasia is about a $300 program…though you can use it for a month fully functioning.

I don’t know about the motion screen capture utilities first hand, but I have heard positive things about them.

I’ve used Camtasia for multiple purposes and had great results (everything from doing narrative tutorials to running a PPT capture during a presentation and just dropping the clip into the timeline without dealing with separate slides and worrying about where you are in the presentation…that sort of thing.)

I have used SnapzPro on Mac…it seems fine as well.

Jing is from the same people as Camtasia, but it goes directly to a deployment format…Flash I think…harder to use for post.

I’m not familiar with the less expensive/free utilities for this purpose. Haven’t had time to explore them.

If you’re still working on this a LOT of the Mac community is talking about ScreenFlow.

It’s a brand new app that just won a big Apple Design Award.

It’s supposed to really leverage Quartz Extreme and Core Animation and a bunch of other Mac Technologies to create stunning screen recordings.
