    Hi there!

    Long term Vegas user.

    My computer:
    Windows 7 64bit
    Intel Core i7 @3.07GHz
    12.gig Ram
    GeForce GTX 570

I have a GSpeedQ 3TB External Hardrive fed through SATA6 into my computer where I host all my footage. Vegas is installed on the C:Drive on a CrucialHD

Everything seems to run pretty smoothly. However, today when trying to render two lens flares on a static image, the box at first rendered forever (meaning it started to render, the time remaining ran out and then it sat there forever until I did a hard shut down of the software).

After restarting the computer and trying again, the software simply failed and closed out all together.

This seems a bit surprising to me.

I tried moving all footage to the crucial C:Drive where the software is installed but it crapped out again on me.

Is my box not as powerful as I thought it was, or is this a common error with trying to render multiple, animated lens flares in Vegas?

    Thanks, guys.

    Evan

Is this the Vegas lens flare filter or a third party plugin?

    I don’t think so.

I’m sorry, I’m away from the computer right now.

I believe it’s just a default plugin. I did download some sony 3D text software, I don’t think this is it.

I’ll let you know in my next post.

Reason i asked, because the built in lens flare filter
doesnt stress Vegas, its particularly the lens flare
filter from Boris thats a bit GPU intensive if you dont
    have good GPU.

I’ve had trouble with Boris plug ins crashing the project too. Is there any setting in Vegas that can help that out. I’m still using Vegas10.

    No setting can help Roger.
I also use Vegas 10 and have crashes using just a few
of its filter due to its GPU requirements, so i stay
away from those. But you wont have crashes if your GPU
    is up to par.

Steve, sorry for the delay in posting.

The lens flare I am using is the Sony Lens Flare. When I try to render it it completely locks up and crashes my system (not always, but it will at least never complete rendering).

I am working with H.264 footage from a Panasonic AF100 full 1080p, rendering it out as an Mpeg2. So far, any other thing I’ve rendered (first time rendering any sort of effects besides transitions) has just zipped right along.

What could be the problem, here?

Thanks A LOT for the help.

That lens flare issue beats me, the Vegas lens flare
filter is very basic and thus requires nothing much
    in processing/rendering.
As a side note, always have the Quantize to Frames
icon enabled, because i found out that some filters
has issues if an event its on isnt quantize to frame.

    Thank you, Steve.

Where is that icon located? I’m having trouble finding it.

Update: I just tried to render one simple, animated lens flare from left to right, changing in size and intensity on a 4 second clip (the lens flare is on a flat Jpeg image on top of a solid color, with floating text underneath).

The render got 66% complete, the “time remaining” timer ran out and then it just sat there building up time for 14 minutes until I cancelled it. It wouldn’t drop out of the render so I had to Ctrl Alt Delete and hard shut down the software.

This is really strange. I feel like my computer should rock this yet it is completely freezing up.

Okay Steve, I think I figured out what it is.

I think it’s the jpeg on top of the white background that is messing me up. I just turned off the solid color underneath the jpeg and it rendered all the way through in a second flat.

I turned the solid color background back on and it locked up at 1%

OK, Glad that cleared up, Strange though.
The Quantize icon is located on the toolbar (top of Vegas),
the icon is a little green square with a mini clock on the
    top corner.
If not in the toolbar, go to Customized Toolbar and place
    the icon there.
