Sorting order in Icon view
Posted by Jim Mcnally on June 30, 2011 at 3:36 pmI prefer to work in Icon view over List view in my bin. However my footage is completely random in the Icon view and makes it difficult to find shots. Is there a way to keep the sort criteria determined in the list view to reveal in the Icon view?

July 12, 2011 at 2:38 amHi Jim, I see you got no joy on your post.
I too, tend to browse through clips in icon view and have exactly the same problem.
I do not know how to fix it.

July 12, 2011 at 2:26 pmHi Alex,
Yes, I never did get an answer regarding this. It’s inconvenient at best to have the thumbnails dumped into the bin randomly as they are. I’ve heard of some using Bridge to do their sorting but I think the back and forth between programs would be a little painful on certain projects.

September 3, 2011 at 10:50 pmHi Jim,
I just replied to Alex in the “Icon view out of order” thread, so I won’t repeat it all here.
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/913330But briefly it seems the only way to control initial order in Icon View is to have the Bin in Icon View before importing – ie putting the files into the desired order before dragging them in.
Hope that helps,
Rupert

June 13, 2012 at 8:56 pmOK So this is a silly bug!… but I just figured a quick solution.
Open the bin in list view so they are in order. Then create another empty bin and set that on into ICON view, then just select all in the original bin and move the clips over into this new bin and they will stay in the correct order. And a bonus… they will maintain this order now even when you go back and forth from icon to list views.
A Pain for sure, but not as painful as it could be.Good Luck!

November 23, 2013 at 5:44 amThis issue used to cause me great frustration too. I don’t know when it was fixed, but in my Premiere 7.1, there is now an icon at the bottom of each bin in icon view called “Sort Icons”. Hooray!
