hi, i figured out the aspect ratio/res thing, thanks for your help everyone.
i’ve made a couple av settings for my needs (namely two, a 1.85:1, and a 2.35:1, both with 30p etc)
the only thing im stuck on now is compression type… i’ve been creating new projects, each using the same av setting, but using a different compression type each time, some are absolutely no good, some seem ok,

could you suggest the best one?
rendering times and storage aren’t really a concern, the quality of the final image is what im concerned about..
so far i’ve tried the following with the following concerns

None: Nice picture, but it seems to not be able to play all the way through (i have a 2.0 macbook pro, shouldnt be a hardware limitation, whatever)
DV/DVC Pro NTSC : crummy image quality, blurry and loses details
HDV/720 30p : fine image, but is not vertically synced (may be mixing up the results with DV/DVC Pro NTSC, ive been doing this all night, might also not even have used this)
    Video: BAD image, blurry
MPEG-4: good image, seems to stutter a bit, not very fluid

thanks, and take my results with not too much merrit, as I have not been systematically keeping track, and may be mixing results

So, best image quality, motion, etc, which to use?

thanks so much, and I promise once this is sorted out i won’t bother you anymore

    Derek,

What is the final destination for this file? If it’s for a DVD then you should try exporting through Compressor from your FCP timeline to m2v and an audio file, either Dolby or AIFF. If it’s for Quicktime, then use an uncompressed codec like Animation or 8bit, if it’s for the Web use H264.

    Have a wonderful day.

    thank you very much.
    so as I understand it,
for simply working within the project, i should use whatever compression i want, and then when it’s time to finalize my movie, i’ll use compressor?

If you’re going to DVD, yes, only if your project is DV just leave it DV. You can’t play the project over Firewire from an uncompressed codec.

    Have a wonderful day.
