    Hi everyone.
I am new here, so, please forgive me if I did something wrong, also English is not my native language.

I am working for a while on some movie….
After I installed Vegas pro 13, one of the files from previous project simply disappeared. At that place (where the video detail is) I get only black field in the preview now – also if I try to render the file – in final video I get just a black hole again.

    It’s a .MOV video file.
    Resolution 1500X1002
    Size 57,2 MB

-First I thought maybe is problem with file format, so I converted video from MOV to MP4, but no change…
Interestingly when I was converting file first time I accidentally converted it in a different resolution – then Vegas registered video.
After i converted again in original resolution – video disappeared again.

Which is craziness! I don’t understand that. Since when Vegas doesn’t import specific resolutions????
Video is not standard resolution though, but, still, it was visible in older versions of Vegas. It’s just a 3D flag video detail created in Adobe After Effect, so I could use it in this movie in Vegas.
I can’t create a new detail now in different resolution and go again through whole setup and positioning of that detail in the video because it is very complicated.

    Very frustrating!

I will be very grateful for any advice.
    Thanks in advance.

What codec does the video use? Can you open it in the QuickTime Player? If so, press Ctrl+I to bring up the inspector and post a screen shot of the details.

That is indeed strange, do you still have the After effects project
    for this particular video?

Sorry guys, I am at work now. I can’t do much… answering from my phone now.

Yes, I do have after effect project for that video file.
And yes, I can play the video in quick time and all other players….

Also I did converted mov file into mp4 file, and still Vegas doesn’t recognize it.
Although I have many other mov and mp4 files already included into the project and all works properly.

    Just this particular file dissappeared.
And, as I said, when I was converted it to mp4 first time I didn’t check “keep original size” option and I got different resolution and that video was visible in vegas.
when I did it again in original resolution 1500×1002 it dissappeared again.

    very weird.

when I go home I’ll give you more infos.

Just open up back after effects and render out that project again
in a quicktime format and in the resolution the Vegas project is in..

Oh, but that is not going to solve the problem.
If I render now that video detail in different resolution it will completely change the position in the video project.

It’s a 3d flag which I made in after effect. That flag is resized in my vegas video project and it’s moving there following some other details in the video. It’s moving complicated – literally I was positioning it in each frame…. I needed few days of work to acomplish that.
If I render now that detail again in another resolution I will need to do everything again….
That’s why I said I can’t go again through all the settings.

Everything worked normally before. What happened now? That’s very weird.

Render it in that same resolution but as a series of PNG images with transparent background.
When you get back into Vegas, import it as an image sequence and everything should line up just fine.
No codec issues to worry about 🙂

    Oh ok ok.
    Sounds good. I’ll try that.

I render out that way from After Effects all the time so I know that it does work.
Let us know if you need help with the image sequence once in Vegas.

Help would be good. I think I never done that before.

Render the image files from After Effects to a specific folder.
Once that’s done, start up Vegas, go File – Import, browse to your AE folder, click on the first image and then click the Open Still Image Sequence box at the bottom of that window. Make sure that the range is the same as what you rendered out. Click Open which will bring up a new window. Make any changes in this new box if you have to and then press OK. The file will now show up in your Project Media tab. Drag it to your timeline and play it 🙂
