    Ok, guys I need help.
I have a few minutes of footage on a Sony Handycam with the Hard drive on it, that exports only via usb and uses MPG as the format. Furthermore it does not play sound on computer
(win XP fresh build, Intel DP35 board, 3 gigs of ram, Intel Quad COre Duo, ATI RAdeon x1600, Matrox rt.x100, Premiere 1.5.1,Quicktime Pro, GIMP,Fully Patched) unless i install AC3 codec.
    Here is the funny part.
When I install the codec, premiere works fine with these files and actually imports the files and allows me to edit them. The Moment I try to use a graphic, JPEG, TIFF, PSD(@ 720×480, 100 pixel) and I use MOTION or scale on the clip. Premiere goes into fetal position.
My first thought is…I hate you sony. My next thought is there must be a good mpeg to avi converter, even if i have to reimport files and recreate half the project.
My second thought is, why is there no AC3 plug in for premiere.
    any thoughts?

    hi there

there is a plugin for PP called mainconcept pro HD MPEG converter. it’s 500 dollars or so.

if you install for example the K-lite package for all your codexes ALL should work fine including playing the file etc (on your pc). PP will import them, handle them and other graphics as well. only will give sometimes a “unknown” error because it yeah it doesn’t seems to like MPEG at certrain frames. You can try “winavi” to convert them, is kinda good, but alot of work if you have 200 shots from your sony cam 🙂

    Greetzz

    Bart
