Any ideas how can this be done in after effects?

well, you’d be best off to shoot it or buy it, but if you wanted to try to make it in ae, you might look at this tutorial by greymachine. it’s for whispy smoke, but it would be a good place to start…. you will need trapcode’s particular effect.
trapcode has another effect called form that might help too.
