  • show excess luma overlay altering video out level?

    Hi everyone,

this is a weird one I had not come accross before nor found any previous question about here:

    1)added a glow effect to a shot

    2) added broadcast safe filter to make sure glow is within safe boundaries

The shot has two people with white shirts meaning that at a certain point almost all the frame is filled with white because of the glow effect.

The weird thing happens when I activate the “show excess luma” overlay in the canvas: it changes the video on my output, both on the monitor and the tektro scope… in fact it creates an artifact as some of the previously white areas are now filled with colors.

I checked on a normaly exposed shot with no correction at all and though it is very minimal there is a slight shift in luma on the output when one turns the overlay on

Our IO card is a blackmagic eclipse multibridge and we’re on fcp 6.06 and octo macs.

    Anyone seen this before?

    Thanks for your help

    Patrice

    Hi Patrice,
    This issue is well known.
To get the best quality play, you need to put your canvas at 100% and close all the overlays.
Anyway this issue it doesn’t affects the render files.
