I can’t seem to get my settings right for a second sequence I created.
The first sequence is set at 1920×1080 and the aspect ratio is set to HDTV 1080i, pixel is square and the editing timebase is 23.98. When I created a new sequence, but still using the same footage, the new sequence came with new settings but they are wrong. The frame size says 1440×1080 and if i type in 1920 it doesnt look good. The aspect ratio is set to HD 1441×1080. The field dominance said odd but I changed it to none, it should be grayed out, and I’m wondering why I can’t change the editing timebase.
When I went to ‘advanced’ it didnt let me put it to 23.98 even though thats what it was shot in. I don’t understand why the sequence settings are different from the first if this is the same project and the footage is the same!
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    M

Lacking some important information, like COMPRESSOR TYPE…otherwise known as CODEC. ProRes is full raster 1920×1080, but HDV is 1440×1080. DVCPRO HD is 1280×1080. So, what COMPRESSOR is the sequence using? That is available in the Sequence Settings.

You can’t change the timebase once one single clip is in the timeline. Select all, copy, change the timebase, paste.

    Ensuring your footage matches:
    create a new sequence.
Drop the clip in the new sequence. FCP should ask if you want to make them match. Say yes.

The codec is ProRess 422 for the first sequence. I went ahead and changed the second one to this as well. It was at HDV 1080i60

BUT the thing is that if I create a new sequence and copy/paste cut up footage from my first sequence, then it won’t ask me ‘change sequence settings to match the clip settings?’. It will simply paste it and give me the green preview bar that needs rendering, and give me the sequence settings I previously mentioned (1440×1080, 29.97, etc). It will only ask me if i want to match the settings if I grab original or subclipped ftg from my browser.

So did I just answer my own question. In order for all my sequence settings to be the same, on any new one I create, do I have to drop in the original, say yes to matching and then copy/paste from my first sequence…?

I already did plenty of work on sequence2 and dropping it into sequence 3, after I made sure the settings were what I wanted, makes it look odd/warped (because the settings were different on 2 I realize that). Can I remedy this without having to start and cut all over?

Your help is much much appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    M

Yes. that’s it. Now, this is the important part. Go look under the sequence settings:
What’s the Dimensions, Codec and FPS. That’s what you need most of the time.

[Pia Morales] “that). Can I remedy this without having to start and cut all over?

    Edit menu: remove attributes.
Now, depending, there may be: Basic Motion (scaling), Distort, and possibly a filter (shift fields).
One or all of those three should fix this.
