I have finished a project originally shot in HDV (canon) but edited in the Cineform Neo HDV. I’m using Vegas 7c.
I couldn’t be more pleased than I am with Vegas. Everything has been a breeze and a pleasure. From panning and cropping to color correcting.

I have built a editing station based on one of the Videoguys one in 2007.
    Duo core 2.4Ghz
    -Dedicated RAID 0 capture drive
    -Dedicated operating system
-three external Lacie Drive between 1TB and 2TB each. All connected through firewire.

Now is time to burn a DVD. My time line is in 24P and I’m rendering into the DVD architect 24P NTSC widescreen video stream.

When I choose the custom option under the MPEG2 option I can, under PROJECT choose between BEST, GOOD, PREVIEW and DRAFT for the VIDEO RENDERING QUALITY.

When I choose PREVIEW for the rendering quality the rendering is a breeze. My computer goes through it with no effort. I can even leave the antivirus and other applications on.
BUT….when I choose the option GOOD for Video Rendering, the computer freezes along the rendering process. Everything is turned off (wireless disabled, antivirus and firewall disabled etc)

What does this mean? I can’t add more memory I have the max 4GB allowed by my 32Bit system. Does this mean I need a more powerful processor?
I could upgrade my 2.4GHZ duo core to a 3.0GHZ quad core?
From what I’ve describe, do you think the problem comes from the processor?
    Thanks for your input
    Phil

Phil, your computer should be able to do this.
Does it freeze at the same point each time?
If so, what’s at that section?
If it’s a large image that you’re doing a pan/scan/zoom on, try reducing its size.
Do you have a lot of very large still images in the project?
Try reducing their size as well.
The usual recommendation is that, if you’re not doing deep zooms, make them no more than twice your project size (i.e. 1440 x 960 for standard def).

Yes, it does stop at the same place, 4% of the rendering or 14% but only when I choose the setting GOOD, when I’m in preview there’s no problem.

Since you should be rendering at least in Good mode (I always render in Best myself), you need to find out what’s going on at the 4% / 14% mark.
What’s on the timeline at that spot?

I started the rendering at a different spot, just to see what’s going in on and it froze at 7%!
I have the feeling it’s a problem with the GOOD mode, not my clips.
    Very frustrating.
I might have to render the whole piece little by little.
    Thanks Mike

I’ve cut the 1h 20′ in 7 parts and each part rendered beautifully. Nothing was wrong with any clips on the time line. Sony Vegas couldn’t render the whole project. That is kind of a concern to me and I’d say it’s borderline irritating. So here we go, in case somebody reads this: If you have a long clip in Neo HDV, 81 minutes in my case and Vegas freezes at some point in the GOOD or BEST setting, you can go around this by splitting the whole project in several pieces. In my case 7. Of course it’s a bummer!
