  • Ref Video Issue – Sony BVW-70

I’m having what I believe is an issue with the reference video in a Sony BVW-70.

I’m attempting to output some video (ProRes 422 HQ, 1080i, 29.97) out to a deck via Kona 3. Normally I run from the computer to AJA breakout box, SDI from breakout box to a Sony DigiBeta deck and then use the Component output of the Digi to feed the Beta.

Signal is getting to the Digi without any issues, but once it gets to the Beta deck there is a video sync (not audio out of sync) issue. It looks like the ref video from my blackburst isnt’ functioning properly, but I’ve switched cables to/from it and even turned it off entirely. So what I’m seeing in my reference monitor (a split video with most of the image on top, some black, then the rest of the image at the bottom) is actually being recorded to tape. I can confirm this via playback on both the Beta and Digi, as well as capturing back into FCP.

You setup the control panel for a downconvert I take it?

    Yes, setup to downconvert.

So I think I can breath a sigh of relief. I guess sometimes you just need to step away from something for a bit, as yesterday I was troubleshooting and figured I’d get a head start on today’s trouble shooting by posting on COW.

Our deck was recently repaired, so I figured something got switched. I forgot that I had recently done a clean install of the Kona Control Panel. The Ref In setting was set on Free Run!

I like when it’s a simple fix, but don’t like when it takes hours to figure it out.
