problem importing ProRes.mov file
Posted by Larry Brewer on March 27, 2012 at 1:00 amI can’t seem to import a 1080_30p ProRes.mov file into Sony Vegas 11.
It is a 30 min clip and 48 GB in size. I understood Sony accepted this format. What could be the problem?

The QTplayer plays the file just fine as does Windows media player.
I have a 1080_30p H264.mov copy of the same file and Vegas imports that file just fine.
What gives?

March 27, 2012 at 1:41 amLarry, I’ve dropped 1080 ProRes files on my Pro 10 timeline with no problems.
I have the same QT build as you do so I have no idea why you can’t.
What does Movie Inspector say about the file? -

March 27, 2012 at 2:16 amThis is the movie inspector data
24 bit integer (Little Endian) Stereo (LR 48 KHZ
Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
Millions
FPS 29.97
data rate 216.43Does this mean anything?
BTW I just upgraded QTPlayer to 7.7.1 (1680.42)
No improvement.

March 27, 2012 at 3:01 amNo luck.. I had originally tried to import from a USB 3 external drive. After these codecs didn’t work I tried copying the file to my RAID 0. No luck there either.
(5 mins later)
And now it works. Seems if I drag the file direct to the timeline instead of going through the import file procedure all is OK.
Will wonders never cease?

That one belongs in the Twilight Zone 🙂
Glad that you got it to work. -

March 27, 2012 at 3:48 pmThough I can’t prove it, I think the problem was with the file all along. Sometimes QT player wouldn’t even open it on the first try. Same with WMP. It was a stubborn file from the get go.

March 27, 2012 at 7:59 pmAnd finally, this morning the file again would not import, and no trickery would work this time to get the proRes mov onto my timeline.
The one time it did work was a fluke. And once it was on the timeline Vegas performed flawlessly.
