August 7, 2012 at 12:32 am[Greg Baber] “You do not need a RAID 0 drive to work with Premiere Pro CS6. It will not hurt, but if you work on your internal hard drive, you should be able to get smooth playback with most files, as long as your system meets our system requirements.”
Greg in most instances people have stacked up layers of native codec footage, graphics and often
(new users) don’t know better about 1/2 resolution and such to make it work good.I would honestly say its almost debatable anyone could get by without some kind of RAID
with the stuff we’re working with these days. And be able to edit and render for perfect
playback rapidly as most people want. The other part is, if they are doing all this stuff and they say bad things about CS 6
it’s likely to be a situation like this. causing slow downs and such.A RAID is a good place to start in my experiences over the last few years.
I don’t doubt what your saying at all, but everyone is expecting blazing performance
from CS 6 and what I said helps as you indicated. It’s really GREAT to see Adobe so active in the user forums….I never got that from Apple.

AVCHD is an achilles heel for CS6 in our shop right now across all our Macs. Cannot get smooth playback of AVCHD material in most cases and very often systems crash during import or playback. Some systems crash up to 5 times per day when using AVCHD media. It’s a problem and I know Adobe is working on improving the AVCHD workflow.

August 8, 2012 at 4:25 pmI have a G-Raid Mini set to RAID 0 and hooked in via FireWire and getting some playback performance issues. Sounds like I need to switch over to eSATA and try that.

August 10, 2012 at 1:39 amPossibly, I guess it depends on what you are trying to play. I seem to of sorted by problems by switching to Windows;). I took delivery of a USB3 RAID0 enclosure which I am going to give a go.
