Placing NEW 3D objects when using a camera w/out having to move it?
When working in the 3D world in After Effects I was wondering if there is any way to have a NEW 3D object be placed where ever your camera is currently at, instead of where you started. I hope this makes sense. I am having trouble finding an answer, if there is any, to this problem.

– I might be misunderstanding you here but I would have thought that if you go to the first frame / set up 3d layer / then parent that layer to the camera it will follow camera – therefore at what ever point you are the 3d layer will be correctly placed …..
….. then all you need to do if you want the 3d layer to show at a certain point is to fade it up at that point in the timeline

I’m working on a project where I am using a camera, but when I place a new object or precompose the layer gets pushed back to where I started and I have to reposition the item to where my camera is currently at.
That makes sense though, I will try it out and let you know if that helps. Thanks!

With the 3D layer you want to move selected, press Ctrl-Home on a PC or Cmd-Home on a Mac to bring it to the center of the current view.
