  • Panasonic P2 no data error

I know others have posted about this problem, but after reading through the responses I was still unclear if there was an easy solution.

About a month ago I was uploading footage from a P2 card. I did everything correctly, made a new folder, copied all files from the card, then uploaded into FCP. (I have version 5.1) It worked fine. Yesterday I tried to do it again, and for some reason the error symbol appeared saying there was no data. The hard drive, computer, files, they were all the same, but for some reason the results were different.

Is there a way to still use the footage without buying software? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

P2CMS is free from Panasonic. Have you tried viewing files with that?

I just downloaded it and it reads all of the files fine. But when I ingest them, it puts them into a file and structure I haven’t seen before and I’m not sure how to use. Is there a way to take those ingested files and get them into FCP as readable video clips?

    Thanks

Select all the clips in P2CMS.
    Choose Export.
Then launch FCP and L&T those Exported files.

I don’t have a Log and Transfer on my version of FCP as I have 5.1. Does this mean the only way it will work is if I update my FCP?

I think there is a way to make it work.
There was something you could download with that version of FCP and then you could “Import” P2 First look under file import and see what you have.

Yes there is something under Import that says Panasonic P2. But I already tried this. And that was what I was using originally when I got my error problem. It doesn’t recognize the format of the video file after it has been ingested by P2 CMS. Or maybe I’m just not doing it right?

Then you should be able to import P2 Files.
It sounds like ur missing some part of the original card structure?

Okay so I actually figured out how to export from P2CMS and for FCP to read the files. But… the im still getting the error. Might this mean the files themselves are somehow corrupted? I just don’t see how they could be since I didn’t do anything to them, they just sat on the external HD. The error is confusing because I can play the files in FCP before importing them, and all of the audio and video is there… so maybe the problem is my FCP?

The help so far has been greatly appreciated btw. Any ideas as to what I might do next?

I cannot believe I didn’t realize this before. There was one difference from before and now. I had installed Snow Leopard. And I’ve read that people had problems with this. Maybe I downgrade OS or upgrade FCP? It must be the problem.

Ya, You need to upgrade your FCP I believe.
