OT: Blackmagic releases free version of Fusion

Very Interesting for tons of compositors.

But not for me, After Effects, Photoshop and Vegas is enough for me. My brain
is so filled and densely compact with full knowledge of these three
applications, that if i dare try to squeeze in learning Node based editing my
head will literally explode Mike, lol, lol, lol.

I think it’s awesome that BlackMagic Designs is taking sophisticated software like DaVinci Resolve and Fusion and making Free versions available to those of us without huge production budgets. I can hardly wait for the Mac version to be released. 😉 Thanks for the heads-up Mike.

Believe me folks, that application is insane there are few in it’s class or have such a pedigree. Once you go node you never go back to layers. Yes it takes a while to unlearn the rules of layer based compositors but when it clicks you’ll say wow this is easy. Oh dear I just realised my copy of Fusion 7 has plummeted in value.

This is interesting timing wouldn’t you say Mr. Froze? Just as I finish the Vegas/Fusion link extension and my trial is about to run out I can get it for free. I would think HitFilm must be quaking in it’s boots a little.

I concur that nodes are far superior to layers. Years ago when game development kits began using node based development it never occurred to me that video editing would take it on as well with Nuke and Fusion. With this new piece of information I might just have to take the time to write a plugin if everyone can get Fusion for free.

yes indeed… very interesting times was just thinking about your project. Hit film may just take a hit in the gonads. BUt truly since I have both and Boris stuff installed, when it’s time do do real work I turn to fusion. AE is but a lonely stepchild here since they started with the subscription nonsense. Keep it around for long term clients who are adamant but I do not take on new ones who fell they know the best way. Strange how clients show up looking for help and then tell you how to do things. Isn’t that the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and expecting different results.

Yup just got off the phone with Blackmagic Support about transferring my licence and touched on the Mac version topic, Yes it’s in the pipeline but like all other projects they have, it is in backlog. Though the dev team states ” We have never seen such clean code ” suggesting it should be a simple affair to parse for the Mac. So yeah it’s coming to challenge the reign of Nuke on the Mac side.
