Is VLC the only place that you see this? Other media players are fine?

April 28, 2014 at 1:56 pmI’ve noticed, There is a difference between the Preview Full HD and the rendered HD image, which exhibits that extra probable Bit Depth, more comparable to better image viewers.

Preview Full i still “preview” quality. The rendered HD will use Good Full by default so it should look better. If you want to see what the render will look like you should use Good Full as well in your preview window.
