objects orbit but maintain vertical orientation
Posted by Paul Dougherty on March 8, 2013 at 3:19 pmI used to know how to do this but have forgotten. I want to orbit objects in 2D space (imagine them glued to the hands of a clock) at the center is some stationary object. Like the cars on a frees wheel I want them to maintain their vertical (north-south) orientation as they go round,.How do I do this?
I remember this from animating text around a vector circle, but can’t remember what I’d do with layers. Thanks in advance.

March 8, 2013 at 3:53 pmYou would parent them to a null at the center of your comp and rotate the null. Then on the objects you would alt-click on rotation, pick whip to the null and add minus sign to counter the nulls rotation.
-thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.rotationHere’s a sample project if I wasn’t clear: 5612_rotation.aep.zip

March 8, 2013 at 4:18 pmThis example is AE generated text, I trust this will work with image layers as well?
Thanks so much

March 8, 2013 at 4:21 pmEasier to upload if I don’t use images, but it will work with images too. Glad I could help out.
