NVIDIA Card with Yosemite and Premiere causing major graphics failure

FWIW, I wrote to nvidia support back on 2/3 about this issue.

They said my issue was being “escalated to a Level 2 tech”.

TODAY (2 weeks later) the Level 2 responded:

Both CUDA and OpenCL can be used to leverage the power of your GPU for various tasks. Their implementation depends on how each individual program is optimized, and problems with one are generally specific to that program. You can try reinstalling CUDA, but you might also want to check directly with the support or community for the program you’re using to see if others have encountered similar issues, especially if other programs work correctly when accelerated.

Pretty much useless.

It’s incredibly annoying to be stuck somewhere in an Adobe/Apple/Nvidia limbo, wherein no one seems to be doing much to fix this issue. Many of us bought high end Macs specifically for use with Premiere and fast rendering/real-time effects.

I wish someone knew someone at a high-profile blog/magazine and could get a write up about this.

Apple has determined that a small percentage of MacBook Pro systems may exhibit distorted video, no video, or unexpected system restarts. These MacBook Pro systems were sold between February 2011 and December 2013.

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will repair affected MacBook Pro systems, free of charge. See below for details on affected models and service options.

As of February 20, 2015, the repair process will be available in the U.S. and Canada. In other countries, it will be available as of February 27, 2015.

I have all the symptoms listed on that page, but my machine is a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)

yeah I’m seeing a lot of that… I’m using a late 2013 iMac. with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB. I did a complete wipe of my system last night and today.. reinstalling Yosemite and all programs and plugins from scratch. I didn’t see any gfx distortion the whole time.. then I opened PPRO and shortly after it started again.

Thanks Peter — but neither of my machines are in that category of “Products Affected”.

I have an iMac and a MBP that was sold in late 2014.

Based on my experience working with lots of machines as a freelance editor, this problem affects a wide range of Apple computers, happening most frequently with NVIDIA cards that are running on the Yosemite version of OSX.

I’ve spoken, at length, to Apple, Adobe, and nvidia, all pretty much to no avail.

I am wondering … is it that my GPU is defective, or that this combo simply cannot work?

I’d like to know who is NOT experiencing this issue, and if any of them have the same setup that I do; but obviously those lucky people won’t likely find their way to this thread!

Apple said bring it in for repair, but that’s impossible, because I use it for work every day.

Ive noticed that it shows up within PPRO but for me, usually on the desktop or a browser window when I tab off of PPRO. it’s getting real bad now.. wish there was a fix. I still have applecare but as you said, I need this for work everyday. What exactly would apple do anyway? Just change out the video card?
