March 24, 2013 at 3:43 pmThe thing to look at is how GPU is handled.
That may be a clue as to how Apple handles it as well in the upcoming MacPro.

it’s not really as informative as one might think. This is a Socket 1155 motherboard, meaning there’s going to be a video single from an integrated GPU to put on that Thunderbolt connection. A new Mac Pro (anything worthy of that label, anyway) will be Socket 2011. Socket 2011 processors don’t have integrated GPUs, which makes the whole thing a lot more complicated. We have yet to see any Socket 2011 system/motherboard with Thunderbolt.

I agree. The question is how one thinks Apple is going to solve this.
Anything we think of is obviously going to be wild speculation. This is also why I think the new MacPro is going to be a very interesting technical break through in solving this and I think people under value the importance of that.
There are no Xeon multiproc based motherboards with Thunderbolt as of yet.
Apple’s will be the first if that’s what they do. -

March 25, 2013 at 7:34 amMy PC is built around the Gigabyte Z77 with Thunderbolt – tried a couple of times to “hack” it but no luck – I’m sure it’s me, but I’ve been building workstations for 20 years and it’s harder than it looks to get a stable hackintosh working.

Have you run into this article?

It’s a pretty in-depth tome on Hackintoshing…

March 25, 2013 at 2:01 pmI built a Hackintosh based around the GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP5, it also has thunderbolt… It works exceeding well. Driving three monitors with the GTX 680 2gb. The Thunderbolt works flawlessly with my Blackmagic Intensity Extreme as well as the Promise Pegasus.
The best part, dual booting Windows 8 / Macintosh off super fast SSD’s
The motherboard can be found on New Egg:
A great website resource for this motherboard:
This thing is FAST and way cheaper and more expandable than any current Macintosh.

Lance,
I found the Z77 to be really easy to hack…
You might want to try this website as a resource:

March 25, 2013 at 7:30 pmThanks I’ll take a look at both of the sites. I was relying on tonymac and found it all a bit confusing.
