New to the forum and new to P2.

We run MacPro Intel, 10.5.6, FCP 6.0.5.

Just purchased a Panasonic HPX300. Went to the Panasonic Pass One site area right off the bat and their specs say I don’t need a P2 driver it’s included in Mac OS Tiger.

Shot some test footage and the P2 card is in the camera. I hooked up the camera vis USB and changed the system Setup menu “PC Mode Select” to USB Device.

I do not see the camera lighting blinking indicating that a USB connection has been made. Under FCP import, there is no Panasonic P2 option and even under Log & Capture I can’t see the clip. I even went to Easy Setup in FCP and matched the settings to what the test footage was shot in. Then tried to Log & Capture again. Nothing. I’m not sure FCP even see’s the camera.

This is all new to me. I bought DVD online from Callboxlive.com where Noah teaches the P2 work flow but it’s not here yet & I don’t have a clue now how to get this footage into into the MacPro and at least play with baby some.

    Suggestions?

    thx

Ok, I at least now have a good USB connection and the camera is mounted on the desktop.

It has the CONTENTS folder and sub-folders in there also.
Then below that folder there is the TXT file.

The test footage was shot in DVCPROHD/60i.

How do I get this now into FCP?

    Watch this tutorial:

    P2 Workflow with FCP 6

Back up the contents of the card (both files) and then import into FCP. The tutorial explains it all.

    Shane,

Wow, what a great video. I followed right along with you and worked just fine.

Does this same process work now with any recorded format including Intra 50 & 100?

    Your the greatest.

    thx

With AVCintra it is SLIGHTLY different. Because unlike DVCPRO HD, there is no native support for Intra, so it needs to be transcoded to ProRes. FCP defaults to ProRes 422, but if you want ProRes HQ (nearly twice the space) then you need to go to the Log and Transfer preferences (sprocket drop down menu>preferences) and choose that format.

    Glad to help.

Yep- just wanted to say thanks for getting the DVD and that you will see exactly how all this is done in the disc. It’s not specifically made for the 300 but the P2 workflow is pretty much the same.

    Shane,

    • OK, I shot some Intra 100.
    •Connected the camera USB.
    • Camera mounted on desktop
    • Copied files over to HD
    • Went to Log & Transfer
    • Hit sproket/pref/selected AVC Intra and it shows the Prores 422 (HD)
    • Then I go to the left side and click the camera and select the folder to log & transfer and nothing shows up

    What am I doing wrong?

Did you drag the clips to the lower left window? Or log them on the right and click ADD TO QUE?

Well, you know how when you click that camera icon and select the folder they come into the left side panel first. Then you can add them to the que. They don’t even show up on the left side.

Now that I look at it I can’t even import the first clips that weren’t Intra-100 either.

Do you have FX Factory installed? Early version, 1.0 or 2.0?
