Thanks for the response Tony. I had downloaded the trial version of iSkysoft. Unless I’m mistaken it only allows conversion to MP4 or H.264…ideally I’d like to transcode to Prores for editing.

Do you bring the MP4/H.264 into FCPX to edit?

Try clip wrap for mts and m2ts.

Or if you have Adobe Media Encoder, that should work, too.

The mp4s are XDCam, maybe?

Another Dave here echoing that sentiment. I have Canon AVCHD files and ClipWrap works great (with or without the complete file structure). ClipWrap can create Pro Res files, but I just “wrap” them in a .mov container and edit in FCPX with no problem.

It was one of those little camera’s mounted to a mini copter. That was my first time dealing with that type of file. (MTS)

I have Premiere Pro by virtue of CS5 and now Creative Cloud and it’s only purpose in life for me is to quickly convert MTS files. I just drag them into the bin, select them all and paste them on a new timeline, set the output parameters for the format I wish and I get one long video (preferred, actually).
