MTS, M2TS, MP4, AVI….Client has left me a big pain
Posted by Christopher Grosso on June 20, 2013 at 1:52 pmA client has shipped a hard drive to us with multiple file types from multiple cameras.
The AVI’s I can convert to ProRes in MPEG Streamclip but there are a bunch of MTS, M2TS and MP4 files that nothing we have can read. The client did not copy the file structure from the cameras so I just have the large “video” files.
Any ideas as to how best to get all this into a workable format?

June 20, 2013 at 2:41 pmThanks for the response Tony. I had downloaded the trial version of iSkysoft. Unless I’m mistaken it only allows conversion to MP4 or H.264…ideally I’d like to transcode to Prores for editing.
Do you bring the MP4/H.264 into FCPX to edit?

June 20, 2013 at 2:56 pmTry clip wrap for mts and m2ts.
Or if you have Adobe Media Encoder, that should work, too.
The mp4s are XDCam, maybe?

June 20, 2013 at 3:31 pmI have used clip wrap in this exact situation before.
It read mts files from an AVCHD camera that nothing else would accept

Dave”Another Dave here echoing that sentiment. I have Canon AVCHD files and ClipWrap works great (with or without the complete file structure). ClipWrap can create Pro Res files, but I just “wrap” them in a .mov container and edit in FCPX with no problem.

“I brought it in to X as H.264
It was one of those little camera’s mounted to a mini copter. That was my first time dealing with that type of file. (MTS)

June 24, 2013 at 8:17 pmI have Premiere Pro by virtue of CS5 and now Creative Cloud and it’s only purpose in life for me is to quickly convert MTS files. I just drag them into the bin, select them all and paste them on a new timeline, set the output parameters for the format I wish and I get one long video (preferred, actually).
