    Hi!

I’ve exported some files from Final Cut Express with Apple Intermediate Codec. The original footage is shot on HDV.

I wanted to batch convert them to h.264, but I get huge quality problems. All the edges get very blocky and I black turns gery. I had the same problem with FFMPEG.
But when I tried exporting straight from Final Cut Express with the same options and had no problems.

Anyone have a solution? I have to do a lot of batch conversion, so I would be nice to find a solution. Thank you in advance.

Here’s my settings and screen caps of the problem.

    Use compressor.

    Hindsight is always 1080p

Any other suggestions besides that. Or do I just have to start collecting money for Final Cut Studio?

Encoding programs like Sorenson Squeeze or Episodes cost nearly as much as FCS. With FCS you get editing, compositing, encoding and high-end color grading. It’d be a good move to start saving for FCS.

    Hi,

I’m not familiar with what FCE can do in comparison to FCS, but shouldn’t it possible to skip the AIC version and export as H.264 using a QT conversion right off the timeline? Or if you’d like to keep editing export a reference movie and do the conversion with QT Pro 7.

Yes, it’s possible to do the conversion right of the timeline. But I have multiple projects that need conversion, so it would be nice to be able to create a batch list.

Here is still my settings if someone has an idea what the problem might be.

And comparison between the quality exported from Final Cut Express timeline and from MPEG Streamclip.

You are correct. With Final Cut Express I can export to MP4 (h.264) straight from the timeline without problems. But Final Cut Express does not have the ability to batch export. That’s why I did the AIC conversion to be able to use MPEG Streamclip (free) for batch list.

But I need invest quite a lot for batch processing, because Compressor can not be bought seperately only with FCS.
