I have a lot of .mp4 files that I need to import into Sony Vegas Pro 8.0, but when I try, only the audio appears. I just need the video for what I’m making, so if anyone could help me find a way to get both or just the video, that would be fantastic. I’ve tried converting some of the videos to .avi, but they get pixelated at times. I tested them in Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker, and they don’t appear like that on there, so I don’t know what the problem is. If you can’t help with the .mp4 problem and know how to fix the problem with my converted videos, that would be helpful, too. Thanks in advance.

The most likely problem is that you updated QuickTime on your computer, either automatically or through iTunes.
You need to uninstall the current version and install 7.6.4 which is available on the Avid site.
It still works with the latest version of iTunes but will not work with video from the new iPhones.

Well, I tried that now and now it doesn’t show either the video or audio. I’ll keep trying other things, but if you or anyone else has any other suggestions, I’m willing to test them.

Did you re-boot your computer after the uninstall – reinstall?

Yeah, it still doesn’t work when I do that.

This is very strange as my suggestion usually works.
Where did the files originally come from?

I downloaded the videos from Megaupload. I think I came up with an alternative way of doing this, though. I’m converting the files to a different kind of .avi than I did before (called “MS Compatible AVI on the WinFF converter I’m using) and they seem to be working well on Vegas. It will take me forever to convert all of them, but oh well.

I don’t believe Vegas uses Quicktime for MP4 files (just MOV). Try installing the x264vfw codec and see if that helps.

It’s an open source project at sourceforge.net. Just download the latest build.

OK I down loaded the latest build but I still can’t get the video to play back.
