.MOV not uploading to vegas.

Anyways my friends dad filmed about 200 scenes for a movie and sent me them as Mov files. When I open them in my quick time player they have just a black screen but the audio works. My local tech store said i need to download a codecs or something.. Well im not to amazing with computers so if anyone can tell me what’s wrong or send me a codecs link thatll work thatd be amazing. I really don’t wanna have to convert them to something else. thx

August 14, 2011 at 12:52 ama mov file is an mpg file. Chang extension to mpg. Do it one one to make sure I know what I am talking about. Then do the rest.

Yes, this is most likely a missing codec. Use the QuickTime Player Movie Inspector Window (Ctrl+I) to see which codec it is. Then you’ll have to find and install that codec.

August 14, 2011 at 7:12 amumm this is gonna sound like beyond dumb but i dont know how to do that.. and nothing i lookl up on the internet is working. Can anyone recomend a good converter to do mov to mpg or mov to mp4, i’ve been siting up for like 16 hours trying to get this working and i now have 3 days to edit the thing.

Did you try what I recommended? Open the Movie Inspector in QuickTime and see what codec the video uses. Like this:

Millionstried some google searches but I can’t really find out what to do with this or how to find the rite codec, if I just type that in or anything nothing comes up. Again I’m really bad with computers, so if it doesn’t take to much out of your time where should i go from here, having found you sshowed me to.

That’s what we needed to know.

You need to buy the RayLight Decoder ($45 USD) in order to get a DVCPRO HD codec for QuickTime.
