.MOV files from Canon 7D are all black in Vegas
I have footage from my Canon 7D that is completely black, as in blank, (sound is intact) when I drop in the timeline of either Sony Vegas 8, or 9 when running windows 7 32bit
However, if I switch back to Windows XP pro service pack 3, and run either Sony vegas 8 or 9, the footage comes up fine.
Windows 7 is partitioned seperately on the same drive, I re-installed all programs needed as well as codecs. Windows xp pro is on a different partition with all my programs.
I’m baffled as to why running windows 7 32bit would change anything.
I’ve downloaded about as many codec packs as I can think of ranging from:
K-lite mega pack (beta for windows 7), CoreAVC Pro edition, Windows Codecs, etc.
What am I doing wrong?

For starters you have done the equivalent of taking every pill in your medicine cabinet in hopes that one of them will cure you. There is no telling what damage that can do to your system. Never blindly install codec paks without first understanding the one codec that you need to fix a particular problem. Then only install that one codec.
What you missed is that MOV files use Quicktime which has nothing to do with codec paks.
What happened is that Apple quality control is not as good as they think it is and their latest update to Quicktime 7.6.6 has broken Vegas Pro’s ability to correctly process MOV files.
What you need to do is download an older version of QuickTime 7.6.0 and turn off Apples automatic updates so they don’t bite you again. 😉

I wouldn’t feel silly at all. There is no way for you to know that Quicktime broke Vegas. Most of us installed it and found out the hard way so join the club. 🙂
Actually, I was wrong about Quicktime and codec paks. There are some codecs that will get picked up by Quicktime so it can be affected by adding more codecs. The key is to only add the codecs that you need and never replace a codec that Vegas ships because 1) it has been known to break Vegas rendering in the past and 2) you might be replacing a high quality codec from Vegas that you paid good money for with a low quality free codec from a codec pak and then wonder why the quality is so poor.
