    Okay Question….

I’m working with AE 6.5 Pro, and have had some luck with the motion tracking feature. However, the motion point I have selected goes out of frame as my video source pans down. The motion tracking works beautifully while in frame, but as soon as the video pans, the motion tracker just sticks to the top of the frame. Is there anyway to have it simply go out of frame?

I’ve been playing the options but haven’t been able to nail this one yet….

Well, I’d call it a tilt but… AE’s tracker can guess but not very well. Is there another point that is still in the frame after the tilt and is it on the same plane (distance from the camera) as your first tracking point?
If so, then at the time in which your first point goes out of frame you need to relocate the tracking point to the new point and continue the track.
There is a particular way to change the point so you don’t get a jump in the tracking but I can’t describe it.. so check the manual on how.

Here is part 5 of a tut that should help:

    5. Move the search and feature regions. When the tracked object becomes obscured so that the feature region can no longer track it, stop the analyzing process. If necessary, back up a few frames, and then move the feature and search regions to the new feature. Leave the attach point in the same location by pressing Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) as you drag the area of the track point between the search and feature regions, or by dragging the edge of the feature region.

Tilt…yes I agree. It’s had been awhile since breakfast and my mind was working overtime to just get my message out….

Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. I did choose another frame that stayed within the entire shot, and tracked that. Then I applied that motion path to my still image. Next I moved the still image to where I needed it in the frame, and BAM – it works beautifully! The still image starts on frame and as it follow the motion path, it moves out of frame!

    Thanks for your help!

Wow, just read this article….I never thought of moving the Attach Point! Even easier than my method!

    Thank you!
