I upgraded my system a little while back from an old Kona SD setup to the Kona 3 card. All of my gear is all component or composite(decks). Im just curious how others are setting up their Kona3 systems. Are you guys using the same black burst box that you were using on your older KonaSD system, or are you using the newer GEN10 or something like it to sync your signal throughout? The reason I ask is I read that people were having issues with the Kona 3 needing something like the GEN10 to get correct sync through older analog suites. I seem to be having sync issues and I think could be the older black burst box I am using. Anyone that has some insight into this it would be appreciated, thks.

I still run a Horita BSG-50 on all our Kona 3’s though the Gen 10 is something that we will add this year. but the BSG has been running for something like 5 years now with no issues on any of our Konas.

    Hey Walter,

Ya Ive been using the same Burst Electronics sync box for years now, but just recently I lost my SDI signal in and out of my Kona 3. Im still trying to find out what the issue is, its looking like its the black burst box. Bummer is i dont have any SDI gear here to test my signal all the way down the line, so Im kind of stabbing in the dark here….its either the black box or two different AJA converters went out at the same time(what are the odds of that) as I cant get a signal in or out of the Kona SDI i/o (I do get component out however). Thks again…..Ill figure this out sooner or later….

    Are they still getting power?

I know the black burst is getting power because there is a light on it, but the AJA converters dont have any light anywhere that I can see so Im not sure how to tell if its lost power, Im not sure why it would have lost power and the way that it gradually went out over the course of 2 months tells me it isnt power. I need to just rent a deck with SDI I guess and go down the line and find out where the signal goes out…

I believe all AJA converters have at least a green led somewhere on them so you know they have power. I’m not in the shop right now, but I believe both of our HD10AVA and the ADA4 converters have green leds on them when power is active.

Ill have to check again, but I sure looked all over both converters for the light, because I thought they had them as well, but I couldnt find one one either the D10ce or the D10AD.

That’s why I asked. If you can’t find the LEDs and you power seems to be good to the AJA power supplies, call AJA.

AJA converters have a light indicating the Power ON status and Live Video status.
The color of the LED usually indicates HD/SD signal as orange/ green and video status colors for on/off is orange / red.

the LED is found between the 2 Outputs on every converter I looked at except the distribution AMP

BOTH my HD10Ce2 and D10AD had LED lights on them.

I just pulled both converters out of the rack today and plugged them into another outlet, there are LED lights on the converters but they both will not light up! So now Im totally stumped on how two AJA converters can go out at the same exact time??? Totally confused…

Call AJA and speak to the converter department. A very very long time ago, there was an issue with power supplies. Perhaps you got an old batch? Don’t know.
