Yes, please let us know how to fix this vexing problem. I’ve been tracking how to address it for some time now.

Just did a search and found this thread, I have the same problem – Edit disappearing from the menu bar. It happened on an old G5 with FCP6.0.6, I lived with it but it’s now happening on a new MacPro Quad with a clean install of SL & 6.0.6 and then a 7 upgrade. I’ve found it happens immediately after using the Text generator – obviously a bug or a common plugin problem.

[Dave Farrants] “I’ve found it happens immediately after using the Text generator – “

    Which generator?

The standard Apple Text generator, just tried it again and you can watch the EDIT menu item just disappear…..!

Jeremy, now I’ve played with it, it’s any of the generators when you use the “A” button in the viewer window but not if you use the same generator from the generator panel in the effects tab and drag the generator to the timeline.

This happened to me as well when I clicked on the A then select any of the MATTE, BORIS or other options, EDIT disappears and everything slides down to replace it.

    FIXED!!

We had the exact same issue – losing EDIT menu when clicking the “A” for effects. What we did was start pulling folders one by one out of the APPLICATION SUPPORT / PLUG-INS folder on the Hard Drive. Finally, when we pulled the MOTION TEMPLATES, the problem immediately stopped. I don’t know if one of those files was corrupted, or what, but it tells me it is a MOTION issue.

    Anyway – FIXED!
