Merging projects, changes color in preview window
I’m merging several projects into a master level project. When I do this, the color images (not B&W) in the preview window are grainy and very over-saturated. Why is this happening. Is there a corrective measure?
I am using Sony Vegas Pro 12;
project properties is HDV 1080-24p (1440×1080, 23.976 fps)Thanks.

Rick, are you MERGING two already rendered-out files OR are you Nesting two VEG files?

You simply may have a filter/effect on the timeline you are dropping

It sounds like you may be applying FX twice. If in one project you added FX to the track, but in another you added them to the event, and now you move the event with FX onto a track with FX you get double FX. Check that you didn’t do this.

John, I think your suggestion is correct. It makes sense. I tried to discover which elements are causing the problem so I could deal with it. However, the larger of my two projects is quite complex and includes many pre-rendered segments and some other fancy footwork. I was unable to determine where there is a duplication of FX. I tried separating the complex project into smaller and smaller segments to isolate the offending parts, but even the smallest components lead to the same strange appearance of the preview window. I may just have to live with it. The rendered product looks just fine, its just that the preview window is not good for an early review of fine details.

Why don’t you use Nested Projects? Start a new project and drag the other project files into it. They will behave as single pieces of media.

That’s just what I am trying to do. Nesting (didn’t know the term). Sorry if I was not clear in describing my situation. I drag in the first project and the preview window looks fine. I drag in a second project, and I get wonky color in the preview window.
One thing I tried was to move the second project down onto a lower track so the two projects would not be effecting each other. No luck.
Can you suggest a way to narrow down the problem? When I delete parts of the second project hoping to get rid of the offending segments, I do not find it. The problem persists with even small bits of the project included. -

What if you just drop the 2nd project into a new project? Does it look bad then? It may have something to do with nesting the second project.

Yes, I tried dropping the second (offending) project in an empty project. It still looks very sick. I tested 3 other projects and they all look fine. It looks like somethings wrong with project 2, but I don’t know what. Perhaps if I try to recreate parts of project 2 from scratch until it breaks?

Yea, you need to figure out what’s wrong with project 2 and why it can’t be nested without looking bad. Of course, you could always just render it out and use the rendered video which should look fine.
