I’ve got a lot of old s-vhs, hi-8 and vhs tapes from my way back in my video career and want to be able to access some of that footage. I’m currently editing on a Sony VPCF series laptop, core i7-940, 6gb ram, Windows 7, Vegas Pro 10d, 64 bit. This laptop doesn’t have any analog video inputs so I’ll need a firewire media converter. I’ve noted that not all of my older firewire devices are supported and recognized by my current setup (ex. Panasonic AG-DV 1000 is not recognized) Any suggestions?

I’m very happy with my Canopus ADVC-300 it has a time-base corrector so it’s really good with old tapes. You could get the ADVC-110 or even the ADVC-55 (which is capture only). Canopus makes really good devices that are well worth the money.

Thanks John, that was actually one of the units I was considering. No issues w/64bit or win7?

[Joel Servetz] ” No issues w/64bit or win7?”

None. It works fine on my Windows 7 64-bit system. The Canopus ADVC series are very dependable units.

I had thaat same problem with my Presonus Firepod when I loaded Windows 7 64 bit. I had to change my IEEE-1394 drivers to the old legacy drivers and it works fine now.
